Introducing my first styler the incredibly talented Kate Mason. Kate leads a very busy life with 5 little ones and still finds time to create for her wonderful etsy store. I love her style and have one of her originals in my family room.
I'm excited to share a peek into her world with you today.
In all its perfect inperfection, I love my home. Its a work in progress, a mix of old and new, scribbles on walls that someday need repainting and a growth chart scrawled on our bedroom door that I don't ever imagine painting over. Home is where my kids and I make art messes, children can jump on beds and couches and where I surround myself with all the things I love. I think my home style is a cross between functional IKEA modern, a bit French inspired and with Georgian architecture. I love simple clean lines for the basics and then whimsical tidbits, interesting finds & colourful collections in every room. Doing graphic arts for a job, I'm drawn to typography. I collect kaleidoscopes. We have lots of photos on our walls. Our garden whilst a bit messy & overgrown [often] is a paradise for the kids to make & play.
For as long as I can remember, I have had a fascination with everything pencil & paper related. I love Kikki K anything, Bookbinders Design everything and have notebook and writing implement collections like you wouldn't believe. Planning, writing lists, writing everything and scribbling are all huge past times of mine so a girl just has to have what a girl needs right? And there's nothing wrong with having cute & chic stuff to do it.
I am also an avid book collector. I have large libraries added to over many many years next to my bed, in our formal lounge and also in my art room. So here's a few of my fave titles from the downstairs library, bookcase next to my bed and from the art room library.
I am not sure why these whimsical little dolls take my fancy so much. Most people probably perceive it quite odd for a [only just] 40 year old to be so smitten with them. Alas I am. I adore their little faces, their cute clothes, pretty hair and unique quirks. They are my muse and I love to paint them as much as I love to collect them. Having 4 girls, well of course they love dolls of all types too and our combined collection is expanding at an unreasonable rate of knots!
Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I really have no idea what I am doing when it comes to looking stylish. Working from home & a full time stay at home mum who really only ventures out to do school drop offs & pickups, the gym and maybe Coles, my weekly wardrobe mostly consists of Skins, sweatshirts & Asics OR jeans, top & boots. I love cowboy boots but any sort of boots will do really. Definitely a jeans, jacket & boots girl. If I need to look a bit more dressed up, of course I have some things, but mostly stick to black for the slimming factor! As for my girls, they love rainbow colours. The more rainbow tights, boots, twirly skirts, fairy dresses and hats they can layer on, for any single occasion, the better. Comfort, colour, a little bit gypsy, a little bit country but mostly fun. I guess thats our dress style.
Creating is a huge part of my life. I am creatively inspired only when I am surrounded with inspirational, colourful & beautiful things. I am not a neat creator, in fact I think I can confidently say my style of creating is messy, whimsical, scrappy. I am organised with my supplies & in my processes, but my art space is full on, full of stuff, full of supplies, full of colour & full of creative things. I love bouquets of freshly washed brushes. Love stacks of colourful papers. Love piles of romantic napkins & fabrics. Love when my babies copy me and create in exactly the same way.
Always have loved them and I collect them in many forms. I have birdhouses from overseas, birdhouses & cages that I have painted, vinyl wall art sticker cages on my walls, birdcages I have wired up myself and birdhouses that have been gifted to me. Anyhow, anyway, love them all.
One of the hearts of the home. I kinda love red in my kitchen. I think that is the signature of this room & brings all the other old & new mismatched elements together. Love our family eating table & its red spotty cover. Love all my babies eating their breakfast around the table in fairy, flamenco & princess costumes, complete with messy bed hair. We all love a pancake breakfast. I like mine with Splenda & lemon juice. Mmmmmm. Love my snazzy red K-Mix. And my fave brunch of all, dark rye toast with extra virgin oil & rosemary, topped with Epicure, tomatoes, sea salt & cracked pepper. Now that is a brunch I could eat until the cows come home. And since I live smack bang in the centre of suburbia, the cows will not be coming home anytime soon.
