Today marks 100 years of celebrating International Women's Day.
International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.
Hundreds of events occur all around the world not just on this day but throughout march to celebrate the achievement of women.
You can see the themes the United Nations has chosen over the years to mark this day here
WD is now an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia. The tradition sees men honoring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

This year I was honored to be asked to be involved in celebrations for our local parish - honored till I had a stress out about what I had to do ! 300 book marks for mass last Sunday .
I designed these ones
Using digital images from kits by Rhonna Farrer, Iara of Baersgarten, Franziska Altmann
If you need some bookmarks for an IWD event - email me with details and I will share my file with you.
Printed, corner rounded and ribbon threaded through the top :)
On the 17th there will be a high tea for some of the older ladies of the parish - so for them I have made these
So far Ihave 25 done - half way there - any leftovers will be taken to the nursing home
I used this tutorial which i had saved to my pinterest DIY board -lovely and simple - I'm going to be doing some frayed ones too like in the picture.
For the base I just made a little card and cut a slit in the middle to slip the brooches on to -I have hot glued hair clips to the back to make it easy to pop on and off.
Happy International Women's Day!
