You may have noticed I have been gathering more and more crochet goodies on my coveting crochet board at pinterest. I watched plenty of u tube and kind of have crochet sorted - I understand a treble and a slipstitch and I can sort of read a pattern all from u tube - but I still was really rather clueless as to whether I was doing it right or not.
I ambitiously started on this project
but it kind of went haywire with the first square looking more like a wonky wonky rectangle
So I switched to these
and it went a bit weird too - I really just wanted some pretty flowers but I kind of ended up with blobs
not one to give up - I then started to search for granny squares after being told by Gigi, Mel and 10 year old Bella - YOU CAN DO IT lol but really I wasn't feeling it.
Then out of the blue I received a text from a friend who I had mentioned to that I wanted to learn to crochet properly too saying she had found us a crochet teacher - and we were starting next Monday night . I had to buy 2 balls of wooll and get a 4.5 mm hook. EXCITED was an understatement - I agonised over what colours :)
So last week we headed off -and met the most amazing crochet lady ever! Her house is filed with so many gorgo\eous projects. Over the space of two hours we mastered Granny squares .
Here is the start of one of mine - I made three that night
and even more fun is that there are another ladies - ranging in age from 50 through to 84! And they sit and crochet away for charity all night chatting, telling jokes and stories. We drank lots of cups of tea and we bring a plate to share for supper.
I can happily say I have totally mastered the granny square and my head is spinning with lots of project ideas. I was due to go again last night but I had a work info session to present so couldn't -I was really sad. and next week Richards in Sydney so I can duck down for an hour while the girls are at guides but it may just be too hard. I'm anxious to go again and show her what I have made. Our next lesson is on butterflies and flowers. So I will see.
The best part is that there is no commitment - the laides are there every Monday night - so If I go great and if I dont thats ok too - we just pick up where we left off from.
Such a lovely arrangement I'm so thrilled to finally have it sorted. While it will be some time before I feel competent I can cross learn to crochet off my list now :)
