Yesterday we spent the morning baking. I find this baking session always shows me how much my girls have grown up and how confident they are now in the kitchen - each year I am more and more impressed with their skills and am gradually being made redundant LOL- sad but true
Our baking is for the neighbours - we have elderly neighbors both side of us and neither have much family close so we take them treat plates. As well we also make a huge platter of morning tea for the staff at Vacation / After school care. They are so good to our girls all year and the lady who runs it is such a grandma she is perfectly suited to the role and we love her.
This year was a bit rushed as I also had my last session of wrapping in the afternoon and we had an electrician in because all the light in my study had died I have been working in here from a lamp over my computer for the last two weeks- So relieved to have light!
But we got baked and decorated and then this morning we did the drop off around the place then headed off to do santa photos.
Sofia made Tals invention of Chocolate Peppermint slice. We nearly couldn't - there is a shortage of candy canes on the Gold Coast and none were to be found Richard eventually scored at Sams warehouse and purchased the last two packets - Sof does like to pound the candy canes.
She was super busy and organised us so I have no photos of her LOL
She also made Clinkers slice which is so good - Barry our neighbour on the left requested it from her especially.
We also made choc chip cookies - the Toll House ones that Janelle shared last year are still our favourite recipe. We made a triple batch which gave us 6 dozen but I think we may find ourselves making another batch for santa.
And of course cupcakes
We tried something different with the icing this year and its really yummy - Just icing sugar and water - no butter and some drops of peppermint essence.
The icing stays white and sets quite hard and looks really lovely . Tals was the decorator - which she loves to do and dreams up different combinations. We have another style planned for christmas day. When we were at Eumundi markets we bought some cute cupcake decorations from a stall called sugarland . We bought some little santas for christmas day and also some mistletoe leaves.
to which Tals added a jaffa and a silver cabochon
She also found these yummy green and white m and m's so made another style with those
Our aprons this year are from Target - on special for $8 So I got the girls an adult one as well- Because the kid's ones ( not christmas were $24 ) the girls thought they were so grown up- and I was happy - they covered well below their knees.
Okay some links to our recipes
Chocolate Slice - topped with white chocolate and crushed candy canes
Clinker slice - coming tomorrow - actually today in a few more hours
And here are the platters we shared - which were very well received :)
Nearly got everything organised ! Hope you had a productive day.
