My girls are so fortunate to have Great Grandparents who are still very active and take a huge interest in their lives. In 5 weeks time my grandfather turns 80. He is not as mobile as he used to be and takes a chemical cocktail of pills each day to regulate all his broken bits, but he still gets out for golf and does most of the cooking.
He has a sweet tooth ( sigh wonder where the girls and I get it from ) and is hosting his own 80th birthday party at home this year for 30 of his friends and family. It's a sit down meal ) nothing like keeping it simple - again I wonder where we get it from ) and he wants elegant.

The girls are charged with organising dessert. Needless to say we won't be adhering to the "clean eating " rules for that. One could easily think that I just do the cooking and throw the girls in front of a few photos but the reality is they are actually much more capable than I am and most of the time more accurate. I tend to be a bit slap dash. They research for hours and while they get way too ambitious, I have to put a stop to things sometimes, most of their ideas are their own. I just get to come along for the ride.
That being said, this morning they headed off to morning tea with "Great". They were excited to be armed with a notepad of questions for their "dessert buffet" planning. I'll be interested to see what they come back with. Richard text me this photo - I had to ask him to but I don't mind. He has started using camera + on his phone which I'm mighty impressed with because before any photo he took was really disastrous.
"Great" aka Patrick Hogan had always been Pat. As his Grand-daughter I had always called him Pat. However once we had our girls and his son's wife was also expecting we kind of had it out and told him no way would the next generation of kids call him Pat and he had to come up with a grandfather name. Richard told him he couldn't be a great grandfather and be called Pat. So he became "Great". He is called Great by all the grand-kids now - great kids and grand-kids alike. It fits perfectly.
