Today marked the beginning of Grade two for my two
They were so excited
They have a lovely teacher - they are in the same class and their favourite friends are with them- some who weren't last year so that's even more exciting.
I try to write down all the bits and pieces they say about Day One - its nice to look back on and I hope it will be a special memory for them- I start with some prompting - Lets write down what your first day was like ...How was the day - what did you do - how did you feel about that ?
Tals was straight into it - Told me the key points and that was it no budging no extra stuff LOL
but that's all good
so Talia's Day - as told by Talia - aged 7 ( click for bigger )and then there was Sofia - she had it in her head that she wanted to give me a full description of the whole day from start to finish and I wasn't allowed to leave out any and then and then LOL so here is her version in its entirety. It'll be lovely to have in years to come. ( click for bigger )
digi credits - I have used Jessica Sprague's template for both - Its on special for $1 at the moment
and Papers were from Alice B - "D'1 coôté du mirroir" par Alice B.
France - Février 2009 - her blog is here
Hope everyone else has had a smooth return to school day too! Very tired girls at our place.
Including Mumma! - who has also had her own return to school - I'd forgotten how tall senior boys are ! We now have laptops and access to the system online which is quite a change from when I had been in school last - it also means that I can work more -nice.
Off to try to work out how to set up a virtual classroom. eeeekk
Being Australia Day we had to have a lamb roast for dinner tonight
and even better the legs of lamb were on special at woolies for $7.98 a kilo
Just a note on pricing- the prices I quote here are based on the ingredients I buy ( or I have priced on line cause I already have them in my cupboard ) but do not include the extras added in the to serve ideas- so for example my roast was enough to serve 5 and I added in the cost of the garlic and tomato sauce and rosemary and then divided by 5.
If I made this next week - when the legs of lamb are not on special it would be dearer :) ( about $1 per person more )
PS I made this myself no helpers needed:)
for some time now have been the Books of Pellinor
To be honest I have never really been a fantasy reader - but last year I feel in love with a series The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudi Canavan and each time I entered the bookstore i have been searching for a new Fanatsy series and something to replace those characters. Just over Christmas a friend recommended Alison Croggon's Books of Pellinor
They have been unputdownable-- is that a word??
I'm on the last 100 odd pages of Book Four - The Singing
I love a good female role model I'm always on the lookout for books to recommend to students to read - The story revolves around Maerad of Pellinor who at just 16 is a slave and unaware of her gift.
extract taken from this beautiful website
At the beginning of the books, she is sixteen, an orphaned slave in an obscure mountain settlement, from which she is rescued by the Bard Cadvan. Their chance meeting reveals that she is descended from a famed family of Bards from the School of Pellinor, and that she is the One, prophesied to save the land of Edil-Amarandh from the Nameless One in his second rising. Although she possesses terrifying powers that make even her friends afraid of her, she is still a young girl, confused, lonely, and afraid of her destiny. Despite her destiny, by nature she is bookish, and her dearest wish is just to be an ordinary Bard and study the Lore of Edil-Amarandh, making her a reluctant heroine.
So good I highly recommend them.
Perfect for the weekends :) or maybe just on the odd morning when you know you need to get everyone motivated to get out of the house
It was a combo of those two things that led me to make these this morning
My helpers didn't help LOL
